Top gong for Mitchell



THE Clarence Valley last night shone at the Northern Rivers Tourism Awards presented at Lismore's Luv a Coffee cafe.

Yamba's Mark Mitchell received the prestigious Judith McGilvray Award for Contribution by an Individual to Tourism on the Northern Rivers. Mr Mitchell is managing director of Angourie Rainforest Resort and is well known through his family's ownership and development of the Blue Dolphin Holiday Park in Yamba.

Clarence River Tourism, headed up by Jenny Massie, won the destination promotion category and snared an award of distinction in the general tourism services category.

Gordon Smith, of Great Time Cruises, took out the tour and transport operator category.

Clarence River Tourism and Great Time Cruises now go on as finalists to contest the NSW State Tourism Awards in November.

The Byron at Byron won best new tourism development and TAFE's North Coast Institute won for tourism education and training.
