Top netballers on trial

By TONY WHITE

AROUND 100 potential representative netball players are expected to converge on the Grafton Regional Sports and and Entertainment Centre this Sunday for trials.

And the young hopefuls will be hoping to follow in the footsteps of the likes of former Clarence Valley locals Lauren Berger, Samantha Donovan and Sarah Cowan who went on to win State and Australian honours.

Grafton teams for the NSW State Age Championships (for 12 to 15-yearolds) in Newcastle in July and NSW Titles in June will be decided after a series of trials run by the Grafton Netball Association (GNA).

The GNA has over 500 registered players including seniors. This year's Saturday competition begins in April with registration in March.

Grafton teams have performed admirably at previous State Age Championships, which attracts thousands of players and is conducted over three days at three different venues.

It is recognised as the largest women's competition in NSW.

On Sunday between 10am to midday, girls turning 12 and 13-years this year will have trials and girls turning 14, 15, 16 and 17 in 2006 from 1pm to 3pm.

The second selection trials will take place on Saturday, February 11 at the same venue ? 9am for 12s and 1pm for 13s and on Sunday, February 12, at 9am for 14's and 1pm for 15s, 16s and 17s.
