Touch footy title lost

By TONY WHITE

YAMBA Public School girls' touch football team was yesterday beaten in a semi-final of the State-wide knockout competition.

Yamba opened its finals account at St Mary's in Sydney by beating Berkeley Vale 4-3.

However, in the semi-final the girls lost 4-1 to Calare.

Yamba, last year's winners of the State title, can still be proud of its achievement this year, finishing equal third.

"The girls played really well against Berkeley Vale but were beaten by a better team in the semi-finals," coach Ian Clifford said.

"They did extremely well to get this far and can be proud of themselves."

North Coast representative Briony Helisma starred for Yamba in the quarter final scoring three tries, with Amy Addison the team's other scorer.

Addison again scored, in the 4-1 loss to Calare.
