Trooper feeling the heat in Iraq

THE only downside to being posted in Iraq for former Maclean High School student Anthony Eagleton is the extreme heat.

The 24-year-old trooper, fondly known as Bung, was sent over to the war zone as part of the 2/14 Light Horse Regiment almost three weeks ago.

His father, Allan Eagleton, said that although his son was enjoying the opportunity for overseas work, it was taking a while for him to get used to Iraq's scoring temperatures.

"He loves it over there, but he said the only thing is that it's so bloody hot," Mr Eagleton said.

"The other day he said it was 57 degrees Celsius and climbing. That was 9 or 10 in the morning." Anthony is looking after a crew of Japanese engineers in Iraq and undertaking a gunnery course. His first overseas tour of duty is expected to take six months.
