Valley rowers join elite

By TONY WHITE

OUTSTANDING Clarence Valley rowers Ashleigh Peppernell and Rachel See have been selected in the NSW Under-21 Emerging Blues Squad.

The two 16-year-olds were chosen in the elite squad of 15 from 105 applicants across NSW.

Both gold medal winners at the last Australian Rowing Championships in Tasmania, Peppernell and See were notified of their inclusion by the NSW Institute Of Sport yesterday.

"Rachel is over the moon," her father Jim said.

"It's a tremendous honour for her and Ashleigh."

Peppernell and See are the youngest members of the squad.

North Coast Academy Of Sport rowing co-ordinator Colin Lang said the girls will attend a series of weekend training camps in coming months under the guidance of elite Institute of Sport coaches and work alongside athletes who have competed at world and international championships.
