Valley shoppers begin to drool

THE question on eager shoppers' lips is, if approved, what specialty retailers will open their doors in the new fitout for Grafton Shoppingworld.

Speculation has already begun to mount about the names of national chain stores and franchises said to be vying for a lease agreement with developer, the McConaghy Group.

Yesterday, McConaghy's managing-director hosed down any conjecture on the shopping centre's future tenants by saying no formal agreements would be entered into until approval to begin construction was received.

He said businesses currently operating in the centre would be the first to have a choice of the selection of new shop sites within the new layout. Once expressions of interest had been sought from local businesses and others in the region, the option would then go out to operators in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne.

"I think you'll find it will be a blend of retailers like you would see at any other shopping centre in Northern NSW," he said.
