WHEN Vicki Williamson settles into her first day at her new job this morning, it will be a far cry from her home town.
Dr Williamson, formerly from Swan Creek, starts this morning as the Dean of the University of Saskatchewan Library in Canada.
She is the sister of former Pristine Waters Council mayor Peter Williamson and the daughter of Ossie and Tub Williamson.
Dr Williamson arrived in Grafton at the age of two, weeks after Ossie and Tub fled frequent flooding at Narrabri.
She was schooled at St Joseph's Primary School when it was in Spring Street, South Grafton, and St Mary's College (now merged into McAuley Catholic College).
Ossie Williamson credits Gough Whitlam with her aca- demic progress.
"If it wasn't for Gough offering free education, we would never have been able to afford for her to go to university," he said.
"She deserves everything she has achieved.
"She has worked very hard.
"This job was advertised worldwide and she was shortlisted with two Americans.
"She got a fully paid trip to go to the interview."
A university spokesman said the appointment was the first of its kind in Canada.
University spokesman Dr Michael Atkinson said Dr Williamson had a breadth of knowledge and experience that would be of great benefit to the university library.
