Watching The Man beat a Green Machine

THE bets were on and the beers were flowing as punters turned out in droves to watch the Mundine versus Green bout at the Grafton District Services Club on Wednesday night.

The estimated crowd of more than 900 stood seven-deep around the bar at one point, but GDSC general manager Arthur Lysaught said people were well-behaved.

"It was a tremendous night," he said.

"I didn't realise we were the only venue in town showing the fight so although I had rostered on extra staff, we were caught a bit short. But they did an excellent job under the circumstances."

The crowd was a mix of families, friends, fans of boxing and those who had never watched a bout in their lives.

The Maclean Bowling Club had a similar turnout on the night, with a few hundred people making a busy night for bar staff.

Austar also reported a huge interest in the fight, with an unprecedented number of subscribers paying to get the fight shown on their home televisions.
