Weekend of woe

By TONY WHITE

IT was a black weekend for Clarence Valley sport.

The Magpies firsts and Ghosts Under-18s bowed out of NRRRL semi final contention beaten by Marist Brothers and Cudgen respectively at Maclean Showground on Saturday.

Yamba Buccaneers (union) season ended abruptly when last year's premiers Ballina proved too strong for Yamba in the minor semi-final in Ballina.

The high flying Bobcats (soccer) also went down to leaders Byron Bay.

And to round off a nightmare weekend supporters of star Grafton galloper Starlactic were left with empty pockets when the gelding could finish only fourth at Doomben.

Fortunately the Bobcats remain in finals contention and Far North Coast Rugby Union minor premiers Grafton Redmen play the major semi-final at Rugby Park, South Grafton, this Saturday.
