HALF of Ray Ferguson's fence was demolished yesterday after a runaway bulldozer smashed through his neighbour's back fence, into his yard and then out onto the street.

The machine, which had been parked at a construction site behind the houses, came to a halt in Toona Way, South Grafton, but only after it had knocked over a tree, hit the front bumper bar of a parked van and burst a water main.

"I heard a big crash and by the time I ran outside it was rolling through my yard," Mr Ferguson said.

"The first thing I did was look where my kids were, but they were inside."

No-one was injured, but residents said it was lucky the accident happened around 1pm, not later in the afternoon when the street would have been filled with children playing.

Police said the incident was now in the hands of WorkCover.
