Womens hockey

LAST week's round of the Westlawn Finance Competition was limited to only five games due to the highly successful Veterans Carnival held in Coffs Harbour on the weekend.

Standout games included Grafton High Angels' 5-2 win over the Mixtures outfit.

Caitlin Joe's gorgeous hat-trick and R Piper's double played havoc with the Mixtures' defense.

Grafton Primary School went down 1-0 to South Sharks despite a gutsy performance in both attack and defense. A well-earned Bebbington goal made the difference.

nOUR Vets players had considerably more action than Big Dog at bed time, participating in a full state championships in Coffs Harbour, with more than 1600 players making up 110 teams.

By all reports, a good time was had by all.

One player celebrated her birthday on the weekend ? receiving a singing mammogram for her 50th.

Five teams participated with the Over-35s number one team, the Over-45s and Over-50s all making the finals in their divisions, only to go down narrowly in very competitive matches.

Making the finals in these divisions illustrates the depth of highly experienced talent that we have still playing in our local competition.

This is a terrific performance, coming from a population of our size.

It was a mixed bag of results for the Over-35s second team and the Over-40s with both teams taking it up to their oppositions, but not quite managing to make it through to the finals action.

As a souvenir of the big event, one player brought herself a decaffeinated coffee table ? you'd never know just looking at it.

A big, well-earned congratulations goes to all players, managers, coaches, umpires, health professionals and administrators for coordinating and participating in the bigger than Barbie weekend of competition and good times.

Any Over-35 year old players who missed out this time are encouraged to jump on the, 'Veterans Volkswagen' for the next one.

KYLIES players are reminded of the meeting this Friday at 5.30 pm at the Grafton Hotel.

ONE post tournament report involves a player washing her edible undies and now they're gone.

A GAME missed out on this week's draw. It is Saturday 6/8 Water4.05pm Demons Green v Video Ezy.

OUR terrific sponsors onboard this week are Mackelly and Co and LJ Hooker.

Why not buy some new clothes from Mackellys so that you look nice when you go round looking at houses?

Happy hockey.
