Woods heads award winners

OUTSTANDING South Grafton High School athlete Sarah Woods headed an array of local talent to win awards at the annual North Coast School Sports Awards at Goonellabah RSL Sports Club on Monday.
Woods and Bellingen swim star Geoffrey Eastwood were each recipients of a $500 sports scholarship award from Integral Energy.
Woods also received a North Coast Sporting Blue for athletics.
Around 350 people attended the awards ceremony including special guest, threetime Olympic gold medal swimming champion, Petria Thomas.
Thomas, a former Murwillumbah High School student, won a Regional North Coast Blue in 1989 before embarking on a fabulous swimming career.
Australian Rules Football star Fred Sleeth, from Kyogle High School, and Old Bonalbo canoeist Roslyn Lawrence won the major President Award for outstanding sporting achievement.
Clarence Valley athletes figured prominently in North Coast Sporting Blue Awards: Daniel Lang (Grafton High rowing); Cody Hearfield (Grafton High rugby union); Kyle Lawler (Grafton High squash); Nathan Sullivan (Grafton High athletics); Joshua Wainwright (Grafton High hockey), and; Joel Ward (Grafton High hockey).
Daniel Lang also won a NSW Blue for rowing.
Olivia Morrison (Grafton Public hockey) and Ellie Starkey (Yamba Public touch football), each won North Coast Sporting Blues in the primary school section.
Citation awards, representing at national or international level, were afforded to Seb Dalton (South Grafton High rugby union) and Rohan Hardy (South Grafton High rugby union).
Recognition Awards, for North Coast representation and outstanding achievement on three or more occasions, went to: Cody Attwater (South Grafton High athletics); Holly Butcher (Grafton High squash); Elyse Depiante (Maclean High rowing); Angela Eke (Maclean High rowing); Aaron Jones (Maclean High cricket); Gabrielle King (Maclean High sailing); Daniel Randall (Maclean High athletics); Rachael See (Maclean High rowing); Marley Simmons (Grafton High netball); Kara Sutton (Maclean High soccer); Joel Wiseman (Maclean High touch football referee) and Robyn Wynn (Grafton High hockey).
