Yamba flocks to exhibition of art

By EMMA CORNFORD

THERE was not a spare carpark in Coldstream Street in Yamba on Friday night as well-known Clarence Valley artist Graham Mackie opened his latest exhibition.

Mr Mackie's show at the Arthouse gallery, featuring around 40 drawings, photographs and paintings, drew an estimated 200 people on opening night.

"I had no idea so many people would come along ? I was expecting maybe 60 people to turn up ... so yeah it was a wonderful night," he said.

He said people had come from as far away as Sydney, Armidale and the Blue Mountains.

"People just came from everywhere. It was a really diverse crowd, from old broken-down rugby players to former cricketers, teachers and students, as well as plenty of people from around here," he said.

"I sold a few works ... and it was a good chance to catch up with people I hadn't seen in a while."

The exhibition will run until July 22.
