Yamba starts new season with a win

YAMBA first grade cricket team began its 2005-06 Lower Clarence Cricket Association campaign with a solid three-wicket win over Harwood at Yamba Oval on Saturday.
Yamba's bowlers restricted Harwood to 141 with Daniel Kirk and Rod Hodgson each taking three wickets in the middle of the innings.
Young batsman Braden Dinham gave his bowlers exceptional support taking three catches including a 'screamer' when he ran in from the boundary and dived forward to snare the ball just above the grass.
For Harwood Darren Ryan batted through the the second half of the innings to score 49 not out, putting on 61 with Ben McDonald, 26, for the ninth wicket.
Dinham opened the batting for Yamba in the run chase and got his team off to a flyer, before he was caught by McDonald off the bowling of Greg Firth for 28 out of a total of 37.
Kirk completed a fine double for the day, topscoring with 48.
Firth, McDonald and John Petrie each took two wickets for Harwood.
Wanders v United
WANDERERS first grade debutant Andrew McLachlan saved his team from embarrassment with a brisk lower order 37 in their match against United on Saturday.
Opening bowler Luke Many made early breakthroughs, taking 2-8 from five overs and Michael Essex bowled eight overs of offspin to have the good figures of 4/37.
In the run chase Many was the only star with 30 from a disappointing total of 70.
Ben Freebody took 2/30 and M Snape 3/24 as an under-strength United collapsed.
