Youth centre bid

By EMMA CORNFORD

VANDALISM to parks, shops and private property has become a weekly occurrence throughout the Clarence Valley. This weekend was no different, with a number of cars parked at the hockey fields for the grand final kicked and jumped on. But one young Grafton man has decided to do something to curb the increasing destruction around the streets. Peter Vanlissum started a petition last week pushing for the establishment of a youth centre in Grafton and in three days he collected more than 400 signatures from people aged 17 to 70. "A PCYC or some kind of youth centre would get the young people off the streets and give them something to do," he said. The 19-year-old often used youth centres while growing up in Brisbane and said he believed a centre in Grafton could help reduce anti-social behaviour. "I used to go to (a youth centre) to do boxing and they helped me out a lot . . . and it gave us something to do. Lots of other places have youth centres.
