Youth learn tricks of the trade

YAMBA'S Surfing the Coldstream Festival is almost here.

And not only will it offer a feast of performances and shows for young and old this weekend, it will provide workshops for people who wish to learn skills from internationally-renowned performers.

The Youth Arts Roadshow, in collaboration with Arts Northern Rivers, is one of those workshops and students from Maclean and Grafton High schools will benefit from the performers' vast experience this week in the lead-up to the festival.

The Roadshow, led by ac- claimed local percussionist Greg Sheehan, will teach students skills in rap, hip-hop, body percussion and mosaicing.

The students will then be able to show off their new skills with performances on the festival's main stage on Sunday.

The Roadshow will be at Maclean High School on Thursday and Friday with a body percussion workshop by Mr Sheehan and workshops in hip-hop and other contemporary dance styles by Norpa Dancers Daniella Finkenauer and Jason Campbell. Grafton High students will have their workshops on Friday.

But students are not the only ones who will benefit from the Roadshow's appearance. The group will hold workshops on both mornings of the festival at the Workshop Bamboo Dome on the Yamba Rugby Oval.
