Appeals court kills death sentence

EGYPT'S appeals court has overturned a death sentence on deposed president Mohamed Morsi and ordered a retrial. Mr Morsi (pictured) was sentenced to death in June 2015 in connection with a mass jail break during Egypt's 2011 uprising. After the 2011 revolution, he became Egypt's first democratically elected leader but was overthrown in mid-2013 by General Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, who became president. Although no longer under threat of execution, Mr Morsi is serving three long jail sentences. Mass trials have been held for thousands of his Muslim Brotherhood supporters.
