Arrest after woman assaulted, car stolen and foot run over
POLICE have arrested an armed man who allegedly broke into a home, sexually assaulted a woman, stole her car and ran over her neighbour in Sydney's west this week.
The 21-year-old was arrested shortly after his alleged victim's car was found burnt out at Toongabbie late on Wednesday.
Police allege the man forced his way through a window at Mt Druitt, attacked a woman while she was home alone, threatened her with a knife and stole her possessions.
When a male neighbour arrived at the home, the accused, who had never held a driver's licence, allegedly ran outside, got into the home owner's car, reversed and bowled the man over before crashing into a tree and speeding off.
The neighbour was treated for grazing and foot injuries.
When police raided a home at St Marys, they allegedly found the man armed with a gun.
He has since been charged with 10 offences including aggravated sexual assault, stealing motor vehicle and property damage worth more than $15,000.
He was also charged over an outstanding warrant and separate break-ins at homes in three other Sydney suburbs.
Mt Druitt Police Acting Superintendent David Goddard said the type of offences committed had a significant impact on the community and thanked the public for tip-offs which had led to an arrest.
