Atmospheric power shocks Clarence

TUESDAY night’s storm provided Daily Examiner photographer Lynne Mowbray the perfect opportunity to try out her new camera, as this striking image of a lightning strike over Ulgundahi Island near Maclean shows.

She said there was no rain in the fierce electrical storm, about 8.30pm.

“The wind seemed to blow the storm from around the Grafton area,” she said.

“And after it passed Maclean it split two different ways, as storms here seem to do. I like taking storm photos, but from a safe distance. I’ve got no desire to get up close. Capturing that moment is just wow.”

The photo was taken from the hill, about one kilometre behind the fishermen’s co-op.
