Sex attack on sleeping teen girl

POLICE are investigating an early morning incident in Grafton on Tuesday where someone reached through an open window and indecently assaulted a sleeping teenage girl.

Police said the person initially put their hands over the face and neck of the 16-year-old before the indecent assault.

When the girl screamed, her mother ran to the front of their Victoria Street home and saw a vehicle speed off from near the front of the house.

“The victim’s mother looked into her daughter’s bedroom, where she saw her daughter in a hysterical state,” police said.

Police attended soon after and searched the neighbouring streets, but found no vehicle or people. They also canvassed neighbouring properties and are to conduct other lines of inquiry.

They expect to interview a number of people in relation to the incident.

They have taken a number of items from the home for forensic investigation.

“Police are treating this matter seriously due to the nature of the attack,” a spokesman said.

He said police did not believe the incident was related to several incidents that had occurred previously.
