Man accused of attempted murder remanded in custody

THE court case of a 50-year-old Raceview man charged with the torture and attempted murder of his housemate has been adjourned for three weeks.

Kenneth John Beattie appeared in Ipswich Magistrates Court yesterday after it was alleged he tied up 50-year-old Ipswich traffic controller Mal Wood and strangled him.

The incident occured on Sunday at 9.30am at a Scottsdale St house shared by the two men and a woman.

Beattie did not apply for bail yesterday and his case was adjourned to August 20.

He was remanded in custody until his next court appearance.

Mr Wood yesterday remained in critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit at Ipswich Hospital with serious neck and head injuries.
