Aurizon is set to slash 25 Wide Bay workers
IT HAS been confirmed that voluntary redundancies will be offered to 25 Wide Bay Aurizon employees after the Chronicle reported that depots around the region, including Hervey Bay, would close.
Aurizon announced a 1% rise in its full-year net profit to $447 million on Monday after payments of $96 million in respect of a voluntary redundancy program in which 960 employees accepted redundances in 2012-13.
Aurizon has reduced its workforce by about 1600 through voluntary redundancies since it was floated by the Queensland Government in 2010.
The company also announced the departure of two senior executives, Ken Lewsey and Greg Robinson, to make a "smaller, refocused executive management team".
Depots in Bundaberg, Gympie Murgon, Mundubbera, Gayndah, Monto, Biggenden, Biloela and Tully are set to close.
