AARON Mooy has landed a prestigious honour, the Socceroo named in the EFL Championship Team of the Year for 2017.

The 26-year-old was named in the midfield for his efforts for Huddersfield, currently sitting third in the Championship table and well in the hunt for promotion to the Premier League.

The team was compiled as part of the EFL Awards of 2017, and are based on votes submitted by a regional media representative of each of the clubs who nominated their top 11 players and a manager.

The overall EFL Team of the Season will be revealed at the EFL Awards on Sunday, April 9.

Mooy has been hailed by Huddersfield manager David Wagner as "one of the best signings" of the season within the league, scoring three goals so far in his debut season with the club.

"We are very happy with him on the pitch and in the dressing room as well," Wagner told the Huddersfield Daily Examiner ahead of the squad's 4-0 loss to Bristol City.

"He is an interesting character because he is very quiet but always focused, and he is a great footballer as well.

"We are very happy that we have him."

Wagner himself has also been listed as the Championship manager of the year, while Mooy's Terriers teammate Tommy Smith was also named in the squad.
