Australia Day events
Minnie Water, 10am: Australia Day will be a fun and relaxed celebration at Minnie Water when the Clarence Valley Australia Day heroes will be announced during the official ceremony by Ambassador Mary-Ruth Mendel. Following the awards, celebrations will include a barbecue and an enjoyable afternoon on the beach playing cricket and footy. From 9am Minnie Water/Wooli SLSC will host celebrations including a barbecue lunch.
Glenreagh, 8am: Glenreagh’s CWA and Progress Association will host an Australia Day council barbecue breakfast at the CWA Rooms at Shannon Park. Everyone is welcome.
Yamba Museum, 9am: The Port of Yamba Historical Society invites people to celebrate the traditional Australian lifestyle with a flag-raising ceremony across the road from the Yamba Museum, followed by a barbecue.
Raymond Laurie Sports Centre at Yamba, 9am to midday: Free admission and barbecue and the chance to try out the new facilities, including a table tennis competition, toddler play room and face painting.
Yamba SLSC, Main Beach, 11am: Council barbecue lunch, presentations and surf swims.
Yamba Tavern, 10am: The Yamba Variety and Clarence Coast Magpies welcome you to enjoy a council barbecue, damper and billy tea, lamington competition, water golf, mullet toss and much more.
Iluka, 9am: Flag-raising ceremony, presentations and a CWA morning tea at the Iluka Community Hall.
Grafton, 8am: Council barbecue breakfast and fun cricket game at the Big River Lions Shed on Hoof Street.
Maclean Showground, 10am: Billycart derby. Bring your best billycart and show your skills at the Lions Club billycart derby at Maclean Showground.
Maclean Bowling Club, 1.30pm: An Australia Day tournament open to all bowlers. Mufti-dress, council barbecue and Aussie dampers. Nominations close 6pm Monday. Contact the club on 6645 3711.
Ewingar, noon: A great day out with the family at the Ewingar Community Hall including a council barbecue lunch. Call 6661 3693 for more information.
Jackadgery, 2pm: Why not have a go at the gumboot throwing competition at Jackadgery Hall. There will also be a council barbecue lunch, prizes for the best dressed, cricket and more. Call 6641 0900 to reserve your place.
Grafton, 9am: Australia Day pet show in See Park. Take your pet along to celebrate Australia Day.
