Bad things happen in threes

THE black liquorice-like skid marks on the sun-baked bitumen told the story.

Traffic controllers marshalling motorists at a roadwork site on the Pacific Highway, about three kilometres south of the Harwood Bridge, had to alter their position just after noon yesterday after a three-car pile up.

Witnesses at the scene reported seeing the grey Mazda sedan travelling well above the 60km/h roadwork speed limit, skid and smash into the back of a grey SUV.

A white Mitsubishi station wagon then crashed into the back of the sedan.
