Bail refused in ‘ice’ case

A MAN from the Brisbane suburb of Inala appeared in Grafton Local Court yesterday after police allegedly found $500,000 worth of the drug ice after stopping a vehicle on the Pacific Hwy at Tabbimoble.

Police intercepted the van just after 2.30pm on Monday and after talking with the man, proceeded to search the vehicle.

Police will allege the man was transporting 500g of methylamphetamine, commonly known as ice.

He was charged with supplying a prohibited drug - commercial quantity and appeared in Grafton Local Court yesterday.

His case was adjourned for mention on October 13 for a fresh bail application.

Bail has been refused until that date.

Assistant Commissioner John Hartley, commander of the Traffic and Highway Patrol Command, said that those engaged in transporting contraband on our roads had nowhere to run, nowhere to hide.

"Traffic and Highway Patrol officers across NSW are continuing to identify drugs, guns, significant amounts of cash, stolen property and other contraband on our roads," Asst Comm Hartley said.

"While our main focus is road safety, intercepts such as this present significant opportunities to attack the transportation of drugs on our highways.

"Not only is this a significant arrest, this is also a case where our officers have potentially minimised the risk of those involved in drug use being adversely affected.

"This intercept is testimony to the dedication and tenacity of Traffic and Highway Patrol Officers across NSW and criminal investigators that prosecute these matters, all for the benefit of proactively attacking the distribution of drugs across NSW, and Australia."

Police are urging anyone with information about this incident to phone Crime Stoppers on 1800333000.
