Baird’s popularity soars as Labor struggles in polls

LABOR leader Luke Foley still has a long way to go if he wants to overtake Premier Mike Baird as the New South Wales preferred leader.

Newest Roy Morgan polls reveal the Liberal and National parties would still easily win if an election were called tomorrow, despite a 1% dip since December to a 59.5% approval rate on a two-party preferred basis.

The LNP retains 52% of the primary vote compared to 24.5% for Labor, followed by the Greens on 14.5%, Christian Democrats on 2.5% and independents and others with 6.5%.

Mr Baird's popularity continues to soar, with 72% of respondents believing he would make a better premier than Mr Foley.

The NSW election is due to be held in March 2019.
