Dancer to perform Sleeping Beauty

BUNDABERG ballet dancer Courtney-Rose Taylor’s star is on the rise after she gained selection in Brisbane City Youth Ballet’s production of Sleeping Beauty.

The 15-year-old Kepnock High School student was chosen for the production – which premieres on September 24-25 at Brisbane’s Conservatorium Theatre – from more than 110 dancers.

Bundaberg dance teacher Dianne McLellan said Courtney-Rose’s selection in the production was an uplifting story, after the dancer almost decided not to accept due to financial difficulties.

“I was approached by an anonymous donor who donated some money for someone who would benefit from it,” Ms McLellan said.

“It was absolutely perfect for Kel (Taylor’s mum). She cried, she was overcome with emotion, it was beautiful.”

The Youth Ballet production is the young dancer’s second for the company, after she performed in last year’s Nutcracker.

“It was quite good to be selected again,” Courtney-Rose said.

“I love the people.”
