Banned Kyrgios up to 13th in world

TENNIS: Banned Australian Nick Kyrgios has climbed to a career-high 13th on the world rankings.

Kyrgios hits the latest ATP rankings despite not playing since his controversial tanking at the Shanghai Masters that resulted in his ban for the rest of the year.

The 21-year-old's third career title win - at the Japan Open two weeks ago - was the main driver in his new ranking.

Kyrgios is close to being Australia's first male top 10 player since Lleyton Hewitt in 2006, however his ban rules him out of qualifying for next month's ATP World Tour finals.

Kyrgios could have his suspension lifted as early as November 7 if he agrees to see a sports psychologist.

However he suggested during a Q&A session with fans on Twitter last week that was unlikely.
