Barnes picked to start for Tahs against Melbourne Rebels
DESPITE being earmarked to play at five-eighth for the Wallabies against the British and Irish Lions, Waratahs utility back Berrick Barnes was yesterday named at inside centre to take on the Rebels at AAMI Park tomorrow night.
Barnes excelled in that position after coming off the bench in last week's pulsating 28-22 win over the Brumbies.
Matt Lucas, the younger brother of Reds utility back Ben Lucas, was another change, named to start at halfback, with Brendan McKibbin moved to the bench.
In other changes, John Ulugia was named at hooker after Tatafu Polota-Nau fractured his forearm in last week's game.
Alongside him, prop Sekope Kepu was named in the run-on side, while Paddy Ryan was named on the bench.
For the Rebels, five-eighth James O'Connor, also named in the Wallabies squad on Sunday, was left out after failing to recover from his chest injury. Nick Phipps and Luke Jones were both recalled.
New South Wales has never lost to Melbourne in five encounters.
