Promise to be amazed by jewellery; scouts honour

GRAFTON Scouts are saying be prepared for all things lapidary this weekend at the Grafton Showground.

For the second time in a year the Grafton Scouts will hold the Grafton Gem and Craft Show to raise funds to help the troop fund itself in the coming year.

Scout organiser Mike Gibson said the event had grown to between 35 and 40 exhibitors over the weekend.

"It was about 42°C when we had the first one in November last year," Mr Gibson said.

"Because of the extreme heat we've decided to move it to this time in the calendar."

He said stallholders had responded positively to the change.

"You will be able to find anything there from fossils to all sorts of jewellery, equipment to polish and shape gems and all sorts of high quality woodwork," he said.

"The standard of the work people brought in for November was really polished and professional.

"Last year we broke even, despite the really hot weather keeping a lot of people away."

He said the event attracted craftspeople from the North Coast and South East Queensland and he hoped to pull some up from Coffs Harbour this weekend.
