Beachgoer dies at Stuarts Point despite effort to revive him
A MAN was pronounced deceased after being pulled from the water at Stuarts Point just after 3pm today.
Few details are available but it's suggested the man in his mid-30s may have entered the water at a part of the beach away from the area usually patrolled and got into difficulties.
The rostered patrol had finished duties at 2pm but surf life savers still at the scene were alerted and organised a rescue.
They gave the man CPR until ambulance paramedics arrived but were unable to resuscitate him.
Club members say the beach is one of the safest on the coast but has several rips and tricky spots for surfers who swim away from areas of most use.
An ambulance spokesman urged beachgoers to be more safety aware.
"Do not enter the water where it is rough, especially if alone," he said.
"If the locals are not using the water on a particular part of the beach it is usually for a good reason and their lead should be followed."
