Domestic violence lands man in jail for 15 months

A SOUTH GRAFTON man who beat his partner in their bed after an argument over money has been sentenced to 15 months jail.

Jamie Lee Walker, 32, also known as Jamie Troy Walker and Jamie Rosengren, faced Grafton Local Court yesterday on two charges of assault causing actual bodily harm and one of intimidation with intent to cause fear of bodily harm. Walker, who appeared via a video link, had pleaded guilty to all three charges.

Before he was sentenced Walker submitted a three-page, handwritten letter explaining to magistrate R Denes how his early life and upbringing had contributed to his situation.

Police evidence said Walker and the victim began a relationship in Brisbane in January.

Walker returned to South Grafton and the girl followed him in late February. They moved into a house in South Grafton in early March with another couple.

The offences began around 2pm on March 6.

Walker assaulted her while she was in bed. He punched her legs and arms.

He took a shot of morphine which calmed him for a while, but then accused her of spending all their money and attacked her a second time, shaking her head violently by her pony tail.

The next day she went to Grafton Police Station and made a complaint.

Police arrested Walker in South Grafton on April 3.
