Beloved family pup baited in South Mackay

A BELOVED family pet has had to be rushed to hospital after it was allegedly baited with rat poison in South Mackay.

Police are now investigating the incident after the owners of Staffordshire bull-terrier 'Toby' returned to their Bannister St home about 5pm on February 16 and found their dog agitated and sick.

Toby was taken to a local veterinarian who confirmed that the dog had consumed a quantity of rat bait resulting in his serious condition.

Pets in surrounding South Mackay homes were not affected.

Police have confirmed Toby recovered and is in good health.
