Bennett is a bad move for the Broncos

WAYNE Bennett returning to the Broncos and everybody starts cheering.

Sorry, I am not in that happy queue.

Firstly, I should say that Wayne Bennett is an outstanding man and at his height, he was a great coach.

That said, there comes a time when the adrenalin stops pumping as fast and the desire is not quite as fiery hot.

That time has come for Bennett.

I could see him coming back to the club in a coaching supervisory role, but never as the head coach.

Anthony Griffin should never have been replaced and no doubt he's feeling rightly gutted today.

Interestingly, Bennett's new multi million dollar deal wasn't brokered by the club executives, but instead by Lachlan Murdoch.

As such they had no real say in the matter.

Bennett showed he still had the magic with his efforts at St George, but he also showed that time had caught up with him at the Knights.

A man who I rate as a better coach than Bennett is Tim Sheens and he went through the same rise and fall.

The wear and tear of an NRL season with all it brings on a daily basis wears the very best down.

I wish him luck but my prediction is he will step down as coach before the end of the 2016 season and hand the reins over to Kevin Walters.
