Blackouts hit both ends of the Clarence Valley in afternoon

BLACKOUTS are occurring in a number of areas on the Lower Clarence and in Grafton.

Essential Energy says the power is out in areas including Brushgrove, Grafton, Gurranang, Illarwil, Lawrence, Lower Southgate, Maclean Roberts Creek, Southgate, Woodfood Dale, Woodford Island and Woodford Lee.

The company did not supply a breakdown of areas affected.

Its record message said teams of workers were patrolling the line in these areas searching for a fault.

Electrical storms that have swept through the area this afternoon are thought to be the cause for the outages.
