BLAZING heat did nothing to prevent the sizzling netball grand final action on Saturday with City DEX dominating their club-mates City Smyths 42-24 in the A-grade decider.

Grafton Netball publicity officer Fiona Gordon said the game was "hard going for players and umpires in the extreme heat of the day," but that didn't stop an exciting conclusion to the A-grade season.

"DEX dominated the game from the beginning, especially with the return of Katie Brown for the grand final," Gordon said.

"Brown is one of their key defenders but has been away from Grafton for a good part of the netball year."

Smyths were no pushovers and kept making a contest of the match even when they were not being rewarded on the scoreboard.

"Smyths experimented with a number of positional changes but nothing appeared to halt the domination of DEX in the game," Gordon said.

"It was a terrific finish to another strong year for the girls."

Kayla Frame was named A-grade player of the season for some outstanding performances throughout the year, while Bonnie Bruce was named club person of the year.

After it was billed as the match of the weekend, the A-Reserve clash between Rhino Strongbow and Spinifex became a game of catch me if you can after the Rhinos blew their rivals off the court in the first quarter.

"Strongbow dominated the first quarter and from there Spinifex could not catch them," Gordon said.

"Spinifex continued to close the gap in the following three quarters but they ran out of time to catch them.

"Unfortunately, Spinifex were missing a number of key players, including goal shooter Charlie Donovan, who was in a minor car accident during the week.

"Donovan broke her hand and therefore could not play in the grand final."

Gordon said the crowd attendances were pleasing, despite they were going head to head with the hockey grand finals and was thrilled to see so many friends and family turn up to support their clubs.
