The Block teams fuming over Kim and Chris's terrace win

KIM and Chris may have won tonight's room reveal on The Block, but they didn't win any friends.

The Newcastle parents were in charge of the budget for the challenge apartment renovations, and their division of the cash left some of their competitors crying poor.

They won $20,000 off the auction reserve price of their apartment for their well-appointed terrace, their second winning outdoor space in as many weeks.

"It's a really cool entertaining space out here. It's  just a brilliant addition to what will be a beautiful entertainment space in there," judge Darren Palmer said, motion towards the kitchen area.

The judges were also won over by Kim and Chris's bold fabric pendant lights.

"They look like two big flowers in full bloom," Palmer said.

"I think these work really nicely out here. The softness and organic nature of them helps them blend in with all this beautiful plant life here."

Baby boomers Dan and Carleen finished in second place, winning $15,000 off their reserve, for their main bathroom.

The judges were impressed with the amount of storage in the vanity, especially in comparison with Ben and Andy's master ensuite.

"It feels like it goes with the previous bathroom but they've slightly turned up the dial in terms of luxury," Neale Whitaker said.

Ben and Andy finished third for their sleek master ensuite with exposed terrazzo stone wall, winning $10,000 off their reserve.

"This is one thing I love about the building is it has all these little surprises, and for the contestants to make that a feature just warms my heart," Shaynna Blaze said.

Whitaker said he loved the simplicity of the space, which featured a stand-alone bath, two sinks and a shower.

"What I'm loving in here is the elegance and simplicity of it," he said.

"The storage is the most serious oversight in here, but I think it feels very modern and kind of luxurious and (art) deco."

Will and Karlie missed out on a prize after finishing fourth for their guest bedroom.

The judges slammed their styling and the use of undersized pieces that didn't suit the proportions of the high ceilings.

"This room to me has a real sense of the deco period because of the proportions," Whitaker said.

"But the styling really lets the room down.

"When I look around this room I think there's so much more you could make of it."

Julia and Sasha finished last after taking a gamble on a kid's bedroom.

Whitaker slammed the space for its neutral, grey palette.

"I've never seen such a miserable kids room," he said.

"Let's make the kid's room grey said no one ever.

"To me the room lacks joy. For goodness sake if it's going to be a kids room then paint it a colour."

Blaze took the women to task for the practicality of their metal-framed bed and hanging chair.

"If I was a mother and I had to go kiss my kids good night on that I would smack my head," she said.

"Can you imagine trying to make that bed every day? Ouch.

"For me putting something like that (hanging chair) in a kid's room is just a disaster waiting to happen. It's pretty but not practical."

This upcoming week is the last week of work on The Block as the teams finish the challenge apartment.
