Slipper start is Written in stone

GRAHAME Begg, who says his undefeated two-year-old colt Written By is as good as any youngster in the land, will put his theory to the test in the Golden Slipper Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill Gardens on March 24.

Written By took his record to three wins from three starts with his victory in the Blue Diamond Stakes.

"He's the best here in Melbourne and I think he's the benchmark in his age group," Begg said.

Begg said Written By needed to convince him he had come through the Blue Diamond in good order before he committed to Sydney and he did that with his gallop at Pinecliff on Tuesday.

Begg said after watching the run he suspected Written By was better than ever.

"I just wanted to be 100% confident he was ready to go and he came through his gallop with flying colours," he said.

Begg also pointed out that Written By did most of his trackwork in the clockwise direction so he wasn't concerned by him racing at Rosehill.

Written By, who is a $9 chance with Ladbrokes in the Golden Slipper, will be floated to Sydney on Wednesday and will trial next Tuesday at Randwick.

Begg confirmed Jordan Childs will retain the ride on Written By in the Golden Slipper.

Begg also trained Written By's sire Written Tycoon, who finished 11th in the 2005 Golden Slipper.
