BMX Come and Try Day a big success
THE Clarence Valley BMX Club's sign-on and free come and try day at the South Grafton BMX race track was an outstanding success, with the new BMX riders taking the opportunity to gain bike skills and learn how to ride safely.
Grey skies and overcast conditions - along with the odd light shower of rain to cool things down - made conditions ideal for the riders and volunteers.
The club held two coaching sessions during the day to allow more people the chance to give BMX a go and, by the end of the day, even the youngest riders could complete a full lap around the track. Looking at the smiles on the riders' faces and hearing them ask if they can ride a bit longer was the perfect reward for all the hardworking volunteers who helped on the day.
Looking down the BMX start hill for the first time on a bike can be a bit daunting but, by the time the new riders were shown some basic skills, most were confident enough to line up on the start gate.
The BMX club was ecstatic with the number of new riders taking up the four-month trial BMX membership which gives the riders and families a chance to get involved and see if they would like to continue in the sport.
