Boaties warned on river closure

NSW Maritime has issued an exclusive-use aquatic licence for areas of the Clarence River this weekend for the Water Ski Classic 2011. Regional manager James Green said an exclusive area would apply for those taking part in the races on the river between Seelands and Grafton from noon to 4.30pm on Saturday and between Grafton and Harwood from 8.30am and 4.30pm on Sunday.

"The area will be closed to all vessels not taking part in the water ski races over the weekend, with the area marked by buoys and monitored by control vessels," he said.

"Additionally, there will be a 'test & tune' day tomorrow from 8.30am to 4.30pm. The river is available for normal use by all vessels but skippers should exercise extreme caution.

"On Saturday and Sunday no unauthorised vessels are permitted to enter the exclusive-use area unless authorised by event organisers, a NSW Maritime boating safety officer or a police officer."
