BOWLS: Black Paddles decided at Maclean
BOWLS: Despite a swag of the local greens' top talents joining forces in the Zone 1 representative team, the local bowlers could not get it done against Zone 11.
The two zones battled it out on the Maclean Bowling Club greens in a Test Series for the inaugural Black Paddles Shield.
The Black Paddles Shield is named after Northern Rivers District bowler Arthur Black and Zone 11's Rex "Paddles" Johnston.
Both stalwarts of the game have represented Australia and won numerous international medals as well as being one of the best bowlers in their respective regions.
Zone 11 took the inaugural test series in a three-peat clean up with tournament namesake 'Paddles' Johnson getting two wins.
"It was a great weekend of bowls and friendship where the Zone One squad gelled really well, and played against a great bunch of blokes from the Manning," said Greg Danvers, Zone 1 Vice President.
"The team now is looking forward to the NSW State Inter-Zone Senior Sides Championship next month."
