Boy, 12, muffled girl, 5, while friend, 16, abused her

A 12-YEAR-OLD boy was yesterday sentenced for holding his hand over a young girl's mouth as she was sexually abused.

The boy, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, pleaded guilty in the Rockhampton District Court last month to one count of indecent treatment.

The court heard the boy and his 16-year-old friend led the girl away from a Central Queensland park to a secluded grass area near a creek in July last year.

It is alleged the friend then sexually abused the five-year-old victim, while the defendant held his hand over her mouth.

Defence barrister Tom Polley said the boy thought of the offence every day and often had flashbacks.

Mr Polley told the court the boy has been bullied and ostracised as a result of the offence.

Judge Brian Devereaux took into account the extremely young age of the defendant.

He sentenced the boy to 12 months probation.

No conviction was recorded.
