Hoping for a Brave appearance at Memorial Park

WHILE it has been under water, hopefully if the weather gods are kind Graftonians will be sitting out on picnic blankets at Memorial Park watching an award-winning animated blockbuster by next Friday night.

Newcastle Permanent's Cinema Under the Stars is back and this time bringing the Golden Globe-winning, Oscar-nominated animation Brave to entertain Clarence Valley families for free.

The film, whose title is quite apt considering the week Clarence Valley residents have had, is the story of a Scottish princess determined to make her own path in life, defying a custom that brings chaos to her kingdom.

Granted one wish, Princess Merida must rely on her bravery and her archery skills to undo a beastly curse.

The film features the voices of Billy Connolly, Emma Thompson and Julie Waters among other stars.

Newcastle Permanent CEO Terry Millett said the building society was committed to supporting the local community.

"I'm pleased that Newcastle Permanent can host free major community events such as Cinema Under the Stars as just one way to give back to families from the Clarence Valley," he said.

"Last year's event attracted almost 1500 people to Memorial Park and we're looking forward to another fantastic night again this year.

"It's a great evening of free, family-friendly entertainment including a blockbuster movie, football clinics hosted by Northern NSW Football, dance and music acts."

Newcastle Permanent's 2013 Cinema Under the Stars program is the biggest yet, travelling to 11 locations across Northern New South Wales.

Guests are encouraged to bring a picnic and experience the magical atmosphere of watching a popular family film in the great outdoors.

Food and non-alcoholic drinks are also available for purchase at the park.

Everyone is welcome and entry is free.

Entertainment starts at 5.30pm and the movie screens at sundown.
