'Bride' splashes out

IT WAS a case of wet feet in more ways than one when Mark Darin took to Eudlo Creek.

The 92.7 Mix FM breakfast announcer frocked up in a wedding gown for his first water-ski to raise money for the Give Me 5 for Kids Appeal.

The stunt, completed last year by his on-air partner Caroline Hutchinson, brought in $3700 for child health services on the Sunshine Coast.

But just like every bride-to-be, Mr Darin admitted to feeling a bit nervous ahead of his big day.

"I said if we got $3500 I would do it ... we made that," he said.

"After Caroline did the water-ski last year, there was no way that I could say no this year.

"What I'm really wondering is why do I have to wear a wedding dress?"

The challenge, watched by close to 100 people, was put forward by the Maroochy River Water Ski Association and Cruise Maroochy, who donated $1000 for Mr Darin to get out on the water.

His first trip down the aisle fell flat, with the weight of the wet dress dragging him down too much.

Eventually, he made a solo pass by the jubilant crowd, who cheered him on and even threw rice in the spirit of the day.

When it came time to be joined by not one but two "grooms", Water Ski Association president Ian Grant and former water-ski champion Dean Mundy, the bride-to-be got cold feet, twice losing his grip on the bar.

While Mr Darin never did quite make it to the altar, his efforts were appreciated, and he was presented with a cheque for $1000 for Give Me 5 For Kids.

"I'm sore, it's cold ... and I'm exhausted," he said once stripping out of his dress.

"But this is another day on the job ... thanks everyone for coming out ... we've got more to help out."

No word on where Mr Darin will honeymoon/recover.
