Briefing tonight for Grafton hockey umpires

GRAFTON'S hockey umpires will meet tonight to go over rule changes to come into force this season.

The briefing will look at rule changes from 2015 reviewed and also the adjustment for 2016 for rule 13.2 procedures for taking a free hit.

There will be two sessions tonight in the Grafton Hockey Centre: juniors from 5-6pm and seniors from 6-7pm.

The chair of the Grafton Hockey Association officials committee Dave Ross said it was important umpires attend.

"Last year there were five or six rule changes, which is a lot more than the normal one or two," he said.

"We wanted to go over them as a refresher as well as look at the new change for 2016 on the taking of free hits."

Ross said despite Grafton possessing some outstanding officials the overall numbers were declining.

"Last year we had a total of 12 for both these sessions," he said.

"When you had so many rule changes it was disappointing to see so few come along."
