Kyrgios back in No. 1 girl’s good books
NICK Kyrgios has had his ups and downs during a turbulent year of tennis, but says his girlfriend can be relied upon to keep him at his "happiest''.
Kyrgios and girlfriend Ajla Tomljanovic, Australia's fourth-ranked player, mixed business with fun during a practice hit at Pat Rafter Arena on a steamy Brisbane afternoon yesterday.
Kyrgios, Australia's world No.21, went to Hawaii last month to support Tomljanovic, ranked No.118, at a women's tournament after they had reportedly ended their relationship in mid-2017.
"It's when I'm with her that I am at my happiest,'' said Kyrgios, who ended his season in October, after he was fined $39,000 for unsportsmanlike conduct. "It's good to have her around.''
Asked if he let Tomljanovic, 24, win in practice, he said: "Not all the time, no.''
The loved-up pair sat courtside, chatting during breaks in practice or Kyrgios checked his smartphone.
Croatian import Tomljanovic is seeking Australian citizenship and has had a Brisbane training base for three years.
It has been a strong comeback from shoulder surgery early last year for the former top-60 player.
"It's good to see her healthy again after being out of the game for so long,'' an appreciative Kyrgios said.
