TONY Abbott is expected to announce his new leadership team on Monday after demoting several frontbenchers overnight.
The ABC reports that the new ministry could be sworn in as early as Tuesday.
Senator Ian Macdonald revealed on Facebook and in a statement that he is no longer on the frontbench.
"What should have been one of the proudest days of my life has turned into one of the worst," he said in the statement released on Sunday night.
"The ecstasy of a new government and success in the North has turned a little sad with a phone call from Tony Abbott saying he has no room for me in the new ministry."
The Queensland Liberal National Party Senator was the shadow parliamentary secretary for Northern Australia and the Defence Force.
Deputy Liberal leader Julie Bishop has indicated she is likely to be the only woman in cabinet.
Mr Abbott has anointed Liberal Party elder Bronwyn Bishop to become Speaker of the new parliament with Mr Abbott saying he wants to return dignity to the parliament.
Controversial former Sunshine Coast MP Peter Slipper, who was embroiled in a sexual harassment scandal before it was thrown out of court, had held the post previously after being appointed by Labor.
