Brooke can't keep mum

YES it's true, she's pregnant; 13 weeks to be precise.

It wasn't really part of the plan for Brooke Eckersley, better known as Brooke McClymont, but at 31 the former Grafton girl turned country music star said yesterday it was probably "about time".

Brooke was in Grafton just last week for a performance at the racecourse with her sisters Mollie and Sam of The McClymonts.

Brooke said her husband Adam Eckersley, also a former Graftonian, was almost giddy with excitement over the pregnancy.

"Adam already has a son, Harry (now 5) and I've been a part of Harry's life since he was seven months old," said Brooke from her Central Coast home yesterday.

"It will be interesting to see how I go with my own."

The couple is planning on having the baby in Newcastle "around about" November 27 but there is also a reasonable chance it could be born somewhere on the road, considering Brooke's busy touring schedule.

The McClymonts depart for the US on Tuesday and will tour for two months before the trio embarks on a national Australian tour from the start of August.

"I'm working till about two weeks before I'm due," said Brooke.

She said she started letting friends know about the pregnancy on Mother's Day and considered making the announcement at last week's concert.

"But that was about the new album and the band - I didn't want it to be about me," she said.

As to any morning sickness, heartburn or strange pains, Brooke said she had avoided all that thus far.

"I honestly wouldn't even know I was pregnant," she said. "I've just been really exhausted."

As far as appetite or unusual cravings are concerned, Brooke said she always liked to eat and hadn't really noticed any difference.

"It's really beautiful for mum and dad because it's their first grandchild," she said.

The couple has not opted to find out the sex of their new addition, preferring a surprise.

So what of life on the road with a mini muso?

"Well, it'll just be our little buddy, strapped to our hip. We'll just have to adapt to the lifestyle. It won't know any different," Brooke said.

"Adam and I were laughing since we're both working musicians, saying wouldn't it be funny if it had no musical bone in its body and grew up to become a doctor or something."
