RUGBY UNION: It will be a proud moment for the Yamba Buccaneers when they step onto home soil in honour of former club man and Wallabies lock Kane Douglas.

The rampaging forward will be immortalised at Yamba Oval this weekend when the club hosts the official opening of Kane Douglas Rugby Field with the Buccaneers' President's Cup side running out on the surface for the first time after the official unveiling.

Yamba will have its best opportunity to notch a first win for the season against a luckless Kyogle Cockies who are also winless after three rounds of competition.

Yamba coach Adrian Miller, who won't be at the clash due to a family party, said the side was shaping up well for the important clash with an increase in numbers at training this week.

"We had a really good turnout to training both nights this week,” he said. "We had the bye last week as well, so I got a chance to put the boys through some solid fitness work which is obvious we were lacking in the opening rounds.”

While the banter for the week centred on whether the Buccaneers might have an added international on their bench for the weekend, Miller confirmed Douglas was only there as extra motivation for the players.

"I wish we could say let's wait and see, but no, Kane has a week off Super Rugby and we're just going to let him enjoy that,” he said. "He will definitely give the boys no excuses for turning up and putting their all in.

"The boys are really keen to celebrate the moment and give Kane the honour he deserves with a Buccs win.”

Miller said the side had learnt a lot from their last outing against Evans River Killer Whales, and that they would try and ride the momentum out of that clash into a win at home today.
